Big Guy Steam Fish – Klang – Flavorful Sauce and Cheap!
Stumbled upon Big Guy Steam Fish when browsing foods in Klang. This restaurant was originally from Cheras (as the sign board suggests).Their specialty is the steamed carp fish / big head fish or commonly know as ‘song yu’ 松鱼.
We were there on a Sunday evening for dinner, and were the first table waiting for them to start the dinner business. Luckily for coming early else we will not be able to get our hand on the signature fish. It was because we heard the lady boss telling other tables that the carp fish has sold out as there were quite a huge crowds during lunch.
The Menu at Big Guy Steam Fish
The signature dishes of the shop are of course steam fish, there are many varieties to it: hometown style, dried vegetables (choi pou), ginger garlic, red sauce, etc. They also serve tilapia, anchovy head, cat fish, prawn and chicken etc.
As usual there are also vegetable to go with the main dishes. Not bad of choices for a family dinner.
The food at Big Guy Steam Fish
Since there are only two of us, we ordered a ginger garlic steam big head fish with add on of fish maws. The maws do look like squid but it is not, it is thinner but with the same chewiness. The garlic ginger sauce is very appetizing, with the spiciness from ginger and garlic, it tickles the taste buds so well.
The fish was also very meaty and fresh too, no weird fish smell. Additionally we ordered an okra / lady fingers to go with the fish. The fish sauce goes so good with the rice and we were so full after the dinner.
The environment and price of Big Guy Steam Fish
This is just like the usual Chinese order dishes restaurant, simple interior but serve you with good food. The shop is brightly lit and is clean and tidy. From the sign board on the wall, it seems like operating for over a year in this location.
The fish head costs us RM 30 and RM 8 for the add on of fish maws. Okra costs RM 12. It is considered very cheap for such a big and meaty fish head. Very friendly to the wallet 🙂
