Visiting Ipoh – Food Tour 2023
We recently embarked upon in the charming city of Ipoh. Known for its rich food culture, this vibrant destination treated us to an array of mouthwatering delights. Join us as we explore eateries that made our trip to Ipoh an unforgettable experience.
We purposely skipped some of the overly commercialized location or the so called tourist spot in the expectation to eat like local. There were a few however, that we purposely returned as we were missing the great taste.
Restoran Choong Kee "Pokok Besar" 兵如港忠记大树头炸料粉
Our journey began at Restoran Choong Kee “Pokok Besar,” where we indulged in their flavorsome ‘Yong liu’ (yong tau fu). This local specialty, filled with a variety of savory ingredients and served with sauce, left our taste buds dancing with joy.

Next on our list was Chloe.co, a recently popular pastry shop that serves delightful pastries to sweet treats.
Restoran Tuck Kee
At Restoran Tuck Kee, we savored their famous baby octopus in soy sauce and yu kong ho, a delightful dish that combined rich flavors with tender textures.
Kedai Kopi Keng Nam
Kedai Kopi Keng Nam stole our hearts with a diverse spread of dishes, including dried curry mee hoon, glutinous rice with kaya, curry chee cheong fun, and refreshing iced white coffee.
Cold Blue Cafe
At this esthetically white cafe, we tried its iced latte and hot americano. It was a peaceful and relaxing morning with the coffee.
Shin Thai Food in Restoran Wah Lok
At Shin Thai Food, located in Restoran Wah Lok, we delighted in the flavors of authentic Thailand with their mouthwatering fried pork neck, mango somtum, and delicious fried omelette. A perfect blend of sweet, sour, and spicy goodness.
Woong Kee Bean Curd
No trip to Ipoh is complete without trying Woong Kee Bean Curd’s famous smooth bean curd. This silky, heavenly dessert was a true highlight.
Genki Japanese
In the mood for Japanese cuisine, we headed to Genki Japanese, where we relished soft shell crab rolls, a comforting salmon hotpot, and a refreshing plate of cold soba noodles. The portion of Genki was big and value for the money spent.
Mama Noodle
Mama Noodle lived up to its reputation, serving handmade loh shu fun that was nothing short of perfection. The delicate rice noodles were elevated with flavorful gravy, creating a truly satisfying dish.
Kommon's Cafe located in The Travelodge:
For a cozy and relaxing ambiance, we visited Kommon’s Cafe located in Travelodge. Their delightful offerings were the perfect way to unwind.
Chef Fatt Dim Sum
To conclude our trip, we went to Chef Fatt Dim Sum’s signature dishes. Each bite of their crafted dim sum were tasty and definitely worth to try it.
