Have you ever stumbled upon a gem of a restaurant that leaves your taste buds dancing with joy? Well, that’s exactly what happened when we visited Pounce Shokudo in Bangsar South one sunny Saturday afternoon for lunch.

The highlights

To kick off our meal, we opted for a Yakiniku Beef Slices set and a Tori Nanban set, both of which came with a side of perfectly cooked rice and a bowl of miso soup. The Yakiniku Beef Slices were a revelation – tender and juicy. The aroma of the beef slices paired with the fluffy rice was an immediate appetite-opener.

On the flip side, the Tori Nanban was a crispy delight. The fried chicken had just the right amount of crunch, and the addition of egg mayo on top elevated the overall flavor profile without being overwhelming. The combination of textures and tastes in this dish was spot on.

To wash down these delectable treats, we decided to try Pounce Shokudo’s signature mocktail sparkling drinks: Sweet & Sour Lime and Sparkling Peach Marita. While both were refreshing, the Sweet & Sour Lime stole the show with its slight zesty kick and a hint of saltiness – the perfect accompaniment to our savory dishes.

The 3 Things We Liked about Pounce

Now, let’s talk about the three standout features that impressed us the most at Pounce Shokudo. Firstly, the rice deserves a special mention. The short-grain rice was impeccably balanced – not too wet, not too dry, just fluffy perfection. It served as an ideal canvas for the flavorful Yakiniku Beef Slices.

Secondly, the Tori Nanban set showcased the genius combination of crispy fried chicken and the delightful egg mayo. The harmony between the two components was a true highlight of our dining experience.

Last but not least, the Sweet & Sour Lime mocktail was a refreshing palate cleanser that left us wanting more. Its taste added an extra layer of enjoyment to our meal.
