Pancake Shaker from Village Grocer – Woolworth Original
June 16, 2021
Ran out of breakfast ideas therefore bought this convenient bottle of Woolworth original pancake shaker mix from Village Grocer at RM9.90. From the instructions, it seems pretty easy and straight forward by just adding water to the mix to prepare the pancakes.
Fill the bottle with water to the level indicated on the label, see the arrow for ‘fill level’
Replace the tightly and turn the bottle upside down and tap sharply on the bench to loosen the mix. There were still mix sticking to the bottom of the bottle so I still have to use chop sticks to loosen it
Shake the bottle vigorously, yes vigorously as instructed on the label for 1 minute. The bottle bloated after the shake
Heat up the pan, grease it well with oil or butter
Open the cap to remove the air
Pour the batter into the heated pan. The batter can make 12 pieces of 12cm pancake. My advice is to make the pancake bigger so it reduces the cooking time. I made the first few smaller and ended up spending more time to fry the entire bottle. It took more almost 40 minutes as each piece needs about 2 to 3 minutes in the pan
Cook for 1 to 2 minutes for each side and flip it, remove the pancake when it turns golden brown
Serve it with butter, honey (or maple syrup) and fruits of your choice
The pancake taste
Pancakes taste good actually, similar to what was served in McD, no complaint on the taste. Bit chewy texture and I like it
Yes for the convenience. Although the label says shake to pan in 5 minutes, allocate at least half 40 minutes for the entire cooking process. The batter does not seems good to be kept for long so what I did was to cook all the batter and freeze few pieces for next days.
Not recommended as breakfast for first timer during rushing morning, more suitable for relaxing weekend
