Bak Kut Teh @ Heng Kee, PJ Old Town
Heng Kee is located in PJ Old town has been around for a long time. The last time we went over was almost 10 years ago. It could be we had been going to the BKT restaurant in Klang, hence forgetting there is this good one nearby.
The Menu
Heng Kee has a very customer friendly menu with big photos on it. This is really helpful for people like us who does not get the name of parts of pork that we want to order.
Wide range of parts are offered here, they serve also the stomachs which are seldom found in other Bak Kut Teh shops.
The Bak Kut Teh
The Bak Kut Teh here are served in individual small bowl instead of the usual claypot. It would be nice if it can be served in the octagonal ceramic bowl instead of plastic bowl.
We ordered pork ribs, pork belly, braised mushrooms and taupok. Two small bowls of soup were given together with the foods. Noticed they will charge for additional soup. The meats come with Bak Kut Teh soup while the mushrooms and taupok come in different braised gravy.
The soup was very fragrance and flavourful. The herbal taste was very strong, the soup was on the saltier side but we did not feel thirsty after the meal. It could be due to we drank a lot of Chinese tea during the meal. We brought our own Pu’Er to go with the meal, just so happened we had the tea leaves 🙂
The meats are large in the serving for a single portion. At least four pieces of ribs and many pieces of pork belly.
Braised mushrooms soaked in the gravy are very tasty as well.
The environment and price of Heng Kee Bak Kut Teh
Heng Kee just moved to the opposite location recently. The shop looks clean, bright and airy. There were many family diners during a Friday night.
For two persons, we spent around RM 40+ with our own tea leaves.
Worth returning?
Yes. Heng Kee Bak Kut Teh has its unique herbal taste.
